Matthias Metzler Death 28 May 1849 Film # 8103184
@Ulrich Neitzel , Let me try this again. I don't think I have "mit genehmigung des grossherzoglichen physiketes" correct. At least, I don't know what that would mean.

Hello Holly,
your transcription and translation is almost perfect! I added just some minor spelling corrections. Physikat is an old word for the office of the public health officer (the Physicus).

@Ulrich Neitzel, Thank you! I wonder why they needed the permission of the permission of the grand ducal medical office in Sankt Blasian? The other records don't say that. I was hoping for a cause of death because Matthias has a prominent marker on a path in the Blackforest and I wonder what really happened to him. https://www.badische-zeitung.de/war-er-ein-opfer-der-revolution--94660527.html . Sorry, it's behind a paywall, but you can see the picture.

Hello Holly,
typically such a permission was necessary if there was suspicion that the the deceased had not died a natural death.
I was able to read the newspaper article. I see that you are mentioned in it, so you probably know the contents. It is said that Matthias died during works in the forest, but also a connection with the revolutions in the years 1848/49 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_revolutions_of_1848%E2%80%931849) is considered possible. A clear explanation seems to be missing.
