map showing last names
I was told their is a map that will show what areas of Germany certain last names are most likely from. How do I find it?

I would suggest this website of the Society for Computergenealogy: https://nvk.genealogy.net/map
It provides the option to look on the distribution of family names as they are derived from the lists of fallen German soldiers in WWI, i.e. the home locations of people born around 1890. That was before the big movements set in during the 20th century due to industralization, war and displacements and gives a good picture of the "original" name distribution.
