Hi Heather!
We would be happy to help! Would you by chance give us some more information? Who is the specific ancestor in question? Do you have documentation for VISSCH (Russia) or Berdichev area? The more information you provide, the more we will be able to help you. Thanks!

Thank you Ellie. ESTHER "Hester" MILROD/MULHRAD KORR/KUR is the ancestor I find who was supposed to have been born in VISSCH (Russia). She was married Max Kur/Korr, 1876-1948 of Haverstraw, Rockland, New York, (buried Mount Golda in Huntington, Long Island, NY) and their oldest son was Max Lieb(sp?) Kur/Korr, 1906-1994. This is where I found the mention of VISSCH: Hester KARR in the Washington, Passenger and Crew Lists, 1882-1965, born in 1884; birth place, Vissch, Russia; Last residence Manu Departure Place: Yokohama, Japan, Arrival date 1918, Ship Name Empress of Russia, line 29. (I tried to attach a screen shot but wasn't successful) .The Kur/Korr family believes that the Kur/Korr family came from a smaller place near Berdichev. They believe that the town started with a "B" and ended with "lav" but I've not found such a place. I've been trying to extend the KURR/KOR and MILROD lines. The undocumented draft tree I have is at Ancestry.com with my user name hlgoebel1 KURR/KOR/Kramer Zelickson Family Tree. Thanks for any help. Heather, retired librarian, Phoenix, AZ

Hi Heather!
I haven't been able to determine where "Vissch" is. It looks like you have done some pretty solid research in the United States, but one thing that I would recommend going after would be Max's naturalization record. This will provide information about him, but also about his wife and any children that were born outside of the United States. The document linked below states that he was naturalized in 1931. If you could locate that naturalization record, that might give us some more information.
Also, you have probably already tried this, but if not, try checking out Jewishgen.org.
