GIBSON, Claude - likely born before 1895, may have been working/living in Northern Utah around 1912-
Hello,
Who is Claude Gibson?
- likely born before 1895
- may have been in Northern Utah around 1912-1913
- may have been a hotel roustabout in Northern Utah (Logan, Cache, Utah, USA)
Background:
My gg-grandparents worked at the Hotel Logan in the early 1900's. Their names are William Garrett and Harriet Cooper (they married after his first wife passed away).
Their oldest son, Lorenzo Thomas Garrett is my great grandfather. I recently saw his birth certificate and verified that it was really him, however the information is a little different.
The name on the birth certificate flips the first and middle names then gives his mothers maiden name. The name reads Thomas Lorenzo Cooper. Information on the birth certificate lists him as the illegitimate firstborn son of Harriet.
The date of birth and location matches that of my g-grandfather. The father's name is given as Claude Gibson, who is listed as a transient (no address) that was a hotel roustabout (odd jobs around the hotel).
QUESTION: Do you have - or know of - any records that might help me find out who Claude Gibson is? I am wondering if he met Harriet while she was working at the Hotel Logan sometime around 1912 (+/- 1 year) or if "Claude Gibson" was a randomly selected name to put on a birth certificate?

Have you tried a DNA test by chance? If you do one of those and you get matches with members of the Gibson family, this may help you to identify which Gibson family Claude belonged to (if the father was Claude Gibson). I would start with the autosomal DNA test with Ancestry.com. Once you have that, you can export your results to MyHeritage.com, GEDMatch.com, and FamilyTreeDNA for free as well.

I apologize - my response is 2 years overdue, but I didn’t realize you had asked a question until this morning.
Yes, we have had DNA tests done but nothing has come up yet for either a Gibson or a Garrett line (and nothing unexpected has shown up either).
I haven’t tried exporting the results yet, but it is on my list of things to do. Thank you!
