Help to transcribed the name of Parish and Church
Hello,
I have purchased a Leciester marriage record and the name of the church and parish appear to the be same, however I'm having trouble transcribing it. I've searched lists of Leciester parishes but nothing seems to match the handwriting. As I live in Australia I'm hoping someone in this group might be familiar with the local parishes and churches?
Thanks in advance,
Liz

As you have the certificate, I assume you have the GRO reference numbers. If so try
http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/
This should tell you the name of the church.

Good evening @Liz Solomon. I have tried to find a parish that looks like the hand writing but have had no luck. I would so as Graham has suggested with that. However, you may find our Wiki page a useful resource for Leicestershire, as there is info on the parishes when you find out what it is.
Leicestershire, England Genealogy • FamilySearch
I hope this is a useful resource. I find the Wiki pages extremely useful!

@Graham Buckell thanks for the great suggestion! I've just entered the detail, but no luck :( It says it's between entries for Leicester St Andrew and Market Hayborough? The couple were living at 47 Dover Street, Leicester at the time of the marriage.

Thanks @LGPreston The Church and Parish are the same name and still unidentifiable. I've been through lists of Leicester Parishes and nothing seems to match, even if abbreviated. Quite puzzling.

Is the name of the vicar legible in the bottom right hand corner? If so try typing his name plus the words Leicestershire vicar into google. Some parishes have published historical lists of vicars.
Another option is to put his name into the Church of England clergy database
https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/
This should tell you where he served and when.

@Graham Buckell That seems like a great resource Graham. Unfortunately the Curate's name is also a little hard to transcribe but I did use wildcards but no luck. And I also used names 'beginning with' - no luck. And I couldn't see Leicetershire on the place list either.
I then decided to review marriage records from other sites (I mostly use Ancestry) and found FMP had more info on the transcript than Ancestry, namely the Place: Leicester, John the Divine.

Looking back on the screen shot I can make out Marriage solemnized at S John's Church.
BINGO! It's only around the corner from where they lived. So I think that's it!
Thanks for all your help. I've gained record set sources through this exercise that I didn't know before.
Liz :)
@LGPreston Thanks for your help too!

A friend of mine in a neighbouring town, who has worked as a professional genealogist, says the transcription is St Johns Church in the Parish of St John in Lecestershire.

Yes, David. That's it! I found FMP had the marriage record transcript with the place.
