french handwriting help?
Hello! I am very excited----I finally found my GG grandmother's birth record in Gondrexange, Moselle, France Decennial tables. On line 2 from the top she is listed as Maria Josephine fille of Nicola and Mary Margt. _____________? On line two from the bottom, her sister is listed as Germain, Maria Rosalie fille of Nicholas and Mary Marg ______? Any thoughts about the spelling of their mother's maiden name? Many thanks! John

Hmm... hard to say from this image. Do you have a link to the record that we could go directly to it?

Margt signifie Marguerite

Have you noticed that 4 lines below Marie Josephine there is another daughter of the same parents, Marie Louise, born on 20 May 1838?
I agree that the mother's name is Marie Marguerite Voisin.

Thank you---I think you are right. Yes I noticed the other daughter but that entry is also tough to read.

Nicola and Marie Marguerite Voisin were married on the 28 June 1836. It makes it interesting considering that the first child, Marie Josephine was born the same day they were married.

Tables décennales (env 1792 - 1952) : Gondrexange (Gunderchingen)
The name of the town became Gunderchingen during the German occupation from 1871 to 1918.
They had a 4th child in 1842, her name was Marie Clotilde Germain.
They did not have much imagination in this town for naming new born girls. All of them are Marie something!
The problem you have is that the yearly registers are not available at the "Archives de la Moselle". http://www.archives57.com/
The last available yearly register for Birth, Marriage and Death is 1802. It is unfortunate since the marriage document would indicate the parents and if a child was "recognized" by the parents
I will look for the Birth of Nicola and Marie Marguerite Voisin between 1800 and 1815.
Cheers,
Bernard Girma
