📆 Since it's Halloween month 🎃, have you thought about visiting a cemetery👻❓️
Cemeteries are honestly one of my favorite places to go. I feel like I'm walking on hallowed ground.
Have you had the experience of walking in a cemetery where some of your ancestors are buried? Think about it! They and/or their relatives (YOUR relatives) walked on that very ground at one point or another! It is amazing to think about.
I have enjoyed walking the cemeteries where my adopted children's biological ancestors are buried. They both gained such a sense of "belonging" by being able to see the headstones of some of their biological ancestors. Once, when my daughter and I found one that only said, "Little Jim," we knew we needed to find out who that was. Our search not only discovered this 3-year-old who had drown after wandering off from the lumber camp, but it helped my daughter and I grow closer as we researched together.
I hope you can feel an awesome SPIRIT this Halloween month as you walk the paths your ancestors walked!

Awesome experiences, @ifyerhappyanduknowit ! Thanks for sharing. I had a touching experience visiting a cemetery a couple years ago. I didn't have much time and was visiting the town where my step-grandparents are buried. It's been many years so I didn't remember where they were buried, but I really wanted to see their headstones before I left the city. I said a quick prayer and out of thousands of headstones, miraculously found theirs within a few minutes. It was a special experience, and I felt them close.
On another occasion, I had the opportunity to stick American flags near headstones of deceased service men and women just before Memorial Day. It was a cold and rainy day, but it was inspiring to see so many that had sacrificed to protect our country and freedoms.

@ctr sweetie , how wonderful to have those experiences! I always thought the headstones on the west US coast were old until I lived in New York for a year. I loved wandering those cemeteries there and seeing such old inscriptions. I'd love to go oversees and see even older ones. I try to imagine what their lives were like and what they looked like. I love "celebrating" all these ancestors as we research and find out more about them and tie them to their families!
