Valperga Italy Pre 1866 Rolando-Perino
During my search into my Italian side, an aunt sent me a copy of my 2nd great grandfathers will. He listed 4 children. Two of which I had found paging through the civil record images (all of them). The other 2 I am assuming are older, which puts them before 1866, and no civil records.
Names in order listed in the will: Surname Rolando-Perino
Giovanni Michele
Antonio (Giovanni Antonio) Birth Sept 30 1866
Girogio (Giorgio Giovanni) Birth Dec 21st 1868 my 2nd great grandfather
Cecilia
My question(s).....How do I find the church records? Which church? Why is there very little for Valperga?
Thank You!
Bobbi

Indeed, civil registration in this area only began in 1866!
However, since 1823, churches in the diocese of Torino have been obligated to transmit copies of their annual births, marriages, deaths, and these copies have been put online! See: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/414653
For any research prior to 1823, the only way will be boots-on-the-ground research at the parish church in Valperga. From what I can tell, there is only 1 parish church in Valperga, contact info available here: https://www.diocesi.torino.it/site/wd-annuario-enti/territorio-diocesano-1587637780/conferenza-episcopale-piemontese-20383/provincia-ecclesiastica-di-torino-23009/arcidiocesi-di-torino-arcivescovado-12768/arcidiocesi-di-torino-curia-metropolitana-25131/vicariato-territoriale-distretto-nord-19261/unita-pastorale-n-34-canavese-14048/s-giorgio-martire-310/
Another source that also exists for pre-1800 genealogy is notarial and insinuation records, which are consultable in-person at the Archivio di Stato di Torino. However, notarial research is very advanced and should only be attempted if the church records are lost or if there are ambiguities in your family tree that the church records alone cannot resolve.
