Can't Find Peter's Parents!
Hi Everyone,
I have been looking for the parents of Peter Sullivan for years and finally someone indexed a death record that had his parents listed. Their names are Marlin (Murlen) Sullivan and Ellen F (her last name is hard to decipher- I've attached a picture of her name). I know they are from
Ireland and immigrated to Canada. That's all I can find. Here is Peter's ID # GS8H-LRM. I really need some help.
Thank you!

Hello Kilee,
Its always valuable to show a whole page of the document to help determine how the author writes various letters to better interpret a particular surname.
Thank you for including Peter's FamilySearch ID. I see that in his death record....

his mother's name is transcribed as Ellen Funician. However, this is not a spelling of an Irish surname. It could be a miss-transcription of "Ellen Finucane" which is a relatively frequently found Irish surname.
The hand-written name you included does clearly have an "i" in its third-last position, however, I wouldn't be deterred by this, as the American author may have written down what they heard rather than a precise spelling.
I would think that Ellen Finucane would be a potential name to investigate.
Best regards, John.

Another option for the surname might also be Finnegan, based on phonetics.
In the Canadian census, married women were generally listed with their maiden names. You might be able to find the family there. And Ellen could be Helen or Nellie, a diminutive for Ellen.
I see a family enumerated as "Fanuckon" in Canada East (Québec) in 1851.
Peter's son, Peter, who was born 1890 and died 1928, has Martin as his middle name on his WWI draft registration. Martin may be a more likely given name for the father of Peter Sr. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K875-XDN?treeref=GS8H-6JZ
