I am trying to verify if the 2 men I see on familysearch are really the same person. First one is A
and wondering about - so I son't forget them really.
Then there is an Andrew Basala I found ID GM66-9H2. Birth is listed as May 16, 1882. I am not finding this birth date in the Slovakia church & synagogue books. I hear from 1 person that there are many ppl on ancestry that have this date from different sources, but no birth/christening record. No one in ancestry trees that have been shared with me have a source for this birth date. In the life sketch it is that person and I communicating back & forth. Please also see collaborate section.
You will see that in the Andrew listed b-May 16, 1882 a marriage in 1911 to an Ann Ilchick ID GM66-CFD. The most compelling thing about this is that in that source his parents are listed as John Basala and Anna Chismar. In the Andreas Baszala file of mine - the parents are Joannes Baszala and Anna Csismar. She I can read was living in Snow Shoe, Pennsylvania. I believe her husband, Joannes/John was already dead and Anna living with her son John in 1910 and 1920 census.
You can see that the death date in the collaborate section too is not solid. Idk where else to look. I was thinking he may have moved in with one of his children after is wife died. Most are in MI. I have not so far had any luck with tracking him down and the one person who said she would get back with me has not. The one daughter lived iin Florida, but so far at least, I have had no luck there either.
There is the question if he died in 1951 or 1957. There is a newspaper obit for his brother George in 1953 that says he living in Detroit and his brother (my grandfather Andy) living in Lakewood, Ohio were surviving the brother George. He died in 1953.
I know this is a lot at one time. I hope you can help me with some info/direction. Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Hi Eileen.
I looked into this and I highly doubt that they are the same person.
Andreas Baszala (ID L64L-82Z) must have died sometime between years 1881-1886 (although I can't find it in the church books).
Joannes Baszala and Anna Csismar had one more son named Andrew and there's no way they would have two living sons with the same name. So first Andreas died and they named their last son the same name.
The same happend with Jan (Joannes/Jhon). First Jan (Joannes/Jhon) died in 1875, so they named their second son the same name.
It was common at that time...
As for Andrew Basala ID GM66-9H2, I am also not finding his birth date in the Slovakia church & synagogue books but you can at least find it in WW1 Draft Registration card and obviously it's not the same as for your Andreas ID L64L-82Z. So whoever connected John Basala/Annie Chismar to Andrew (ID GM66-9H2) and even without evidence is in my opinion wrong.

Hello. This is a very confusing family!! I can understand your reasoning, I had that thinking too for a long time. Yet I am not convinced now because of more info being learned. I may be totally wrong in my thinking in the end, yet I must look thoroughly before I do or do not connect these 2.
In the memories section of brother George ID L64J-SH8 (of my 1881 Andreas) it reads that he has 2 surviving brothers, Andrew in Detroit and Andy in Lakewood. I attached to Andreas 1881 ID L64L-82Z 2 newspapers.com obits because they presented differently, but the copy in the memories section of brother George is clearest. To me this is compelling information.
I have looked at Slovakia church & synagogue books for Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic for his name, the parents, but especially the date May 16, 1882 to try and locate. I have seen nothing yet. I know that sources show this May 16, 1882 date in the USA but as I understood it from Betty at our local FHC sometimes ppl changed their stated birth date for a variety of reasons. She had been my go to person because of her knowledge. She has developed stage 4 lung cancer. There is no going back to her, she needs our prayers now.
In the marriage record of Andrew 1882 ID GM66-9H2, it shows his father as John Basala (I think it says he is deceased) and his mother Anna Chismar living in Snow Shoe, PA. If this is the one I am thinking..She was living with her son John in 1910 census in Snow Shoe, PA. When she came over in 1901, she (and the 2 children she came with) came to see her son John not husband John. He is another story entirely - to leave for a later date. Her name Anna Csismar. To me this is compelling information. Try https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q24X-Y4N6 or click on the source directly where it is attached.
Also, to confuse me more, the Andrew listed on the 1910 census could be the son of Andreas Baszala 1853 IDL64L-82Z. There are a few guys with the same name in and through generations. I wonder who this one is in 1910 census. The Steve listed may be the Steve, another son of this same Andreas 1853 . Their mother was Elizabeth.
The draft - WWI draft shows a date of May 16, 1882 in Maine. The other is WWII draft, birth listed is May 16, 1881. Here he was 61 years old and in Detroit, Michigan. This WWII info I have in the collaborate section of Andreas 1881 ID L64L-82Z
So as you can see-much confusion, yet a little more to consider.
Thank you so much for your time & effort.

Thanks for further explanation. It is really very confusing but very interesting. I think it's funny that they would named their sons the same. But now I think you are right about all of this. After all, you've spent a lot of time investigating 👍

Ok. So if I understand you correctly, I can merge these 2 in confidence that they are the same person??
In merging, will the collaborate section, memories go with the merge?
What or who is the best group or person, if not you, to help me with the death date investigation of this person? Of course there is confusion there too!!
Thank you. I will wait to merge until I hear the OK from you.

I would not recommend to merge it until you are 100% sure they are the same person.
There are indications that they are the same person, but I personally would continue to look for more evidence.

Hi. What evidence should I be looking for that would make this clearer to merge or not to merge?? Eileen

I sent you PM.

I received your PM. Thank you so much!!!! What a lot of good information that I would have never known.
Moving on... What or who is the best group or person, if not you, to help me with the death date investigation of this person? Of course there is confusion there too!! He died in the USA if that helps narrow down who is best to help if not you.
Thanks!

I see that you've merged them already, so it's ok.

Sorry I can't help you with this because I am not from the USA.
But I assume he died in Wayne, Michigan just like his wife.
HERE (scroll down to deaths) you can see that death records from 1952 to 1971 aren't available online, that's probably why you've found nothing. Did you search somewhere else?

Thank you so much! When you ask if I searched somewhere else...what do you mean?? Where?? Thanks, Eileen

I don't know. Try to ask HERE.
I assume you have some institutions in the United States that provide such informations.
I also found this page, maybe it will help you (If you really know that he died in Wayne, Michigan. Keep in mind that this was only my assumption): https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/How_to_Find_Michigan_Death_Records#Deaths
That is about all I can help you with in this matter.
