Can anyone help me translate this baptism record? And perhaps identify more family members, perhaps
My husband's 2nd-great-grandfather emigrated from Switzerland the the US circa 1882. We'd love to be able to trace the family back further when they were in Switzerland.
The baptism for my husband's 3rd great-grandfather was indexed and I did successfully find the original text on Canton Bern's website of archives. This entry is found the Munster Parish of Bern, Bern, Switzerland. We'd love to know if this record can give any additional hints as to where his parents came from. Was their citizenship in Bern?
Entry is for Samuel Friedrich Albrect Meyer on page 160 (or the written page is 315, entry #409).

I was also wondering why I cannot find the marriage entry for Samuel Friedrich Meyer to his wife, my husband's 3rd-great-grandmother, Nannette Borel? I am unsure of the year, it could range anywhere from 1840-1860?
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Assuming that your are able to read the entry fairly well (you have found it after all), my inputs are about the more challenging hints in this entry.
The father is a Flächenmaler (surface painter), his Heimatort is "bernischer Landsass", thus he has no municipal citizenship which is common, but he owns cantonal citizenship. More about this type of citizenship you find in the HLS-article about Landsassen (HLS = Historical Lexicon of Switzerland), please note Landsassen are not equal to Heimatlose (who have no cititizenrights at all!).
The mothers Heimatort is Bern, she is likely to be a daughter of the "von Ernst" family. More about this family and origins in HLS-article von Ernst.
the Godparents all have Heimatort in Bern, they are all with honorable status, recognizable by the title Herr (Lord) and Jungfrau (Virgin).
In terms of the marriage place/date only the reference vide Taufrodel (see in baptism register) is shared. But, hm,... this remark is written in a Taufrodel... is the writer may be referring to another baptism register? If not this one, then, which one?

Thank you so much for this information, Yvonne. I have been taking the FamilySearch classes on Swiss Genealogy, including the ones reg. German script, but this entry was beyond me (except the names). Now I know why!
It seems that tracing the Meyers is going to be challenging, given that the family had no municipal citizenship... am I correct there? The Ernsts will likely be easier.
I found several baptism entries for more of the Meyer children of Friedrich Meyer and Katharina Ernst. I will look closely at those; perhaps there is information there reg. their marriage.
Thanks again, Tessa
