@JanTropp, check out this page for ward temple and family history leaders: https://www.familysearch.org/calling/?page=9
It gives you the principles and some ideas. I'm one who feels strongly that it is better to rely on the Spirit to give you and your ward council guidance in developing a plan specific to your situation than in copying a plan someone else put together.

thank you.

But it is well to study it out in your mind - do the ground work, if you will, to be as informed as possible, as you invite the Spirit. Just my thoughts.

I just had a training class for the Ward FH leaders to help them. I have found that although the plan should come from the Bishopric many of the ward leaders are asked to come up with one to present. Meeting back with the bishopric to discuss how each organization can contribute to the overall plan to get their buy-in and support; then helping each of the organizations with the use of the consultants to help reach that goal. It may take a while for this "ship" to make a turn-around, but we will get there with energy and patience and prayer.

What a good idea! I’ll try that.

I reminded the Ward Leaders that the monthly report should be able to reflect the progress of the goals that is set by the ward so you can measure progress and make changes accordingly.

@SherryGrabill SherryGrabill, Section 5.4.3.2 of Handbook 2 states the following regarding who is responsible for the plan (underlined emphasis is mine):
"Under the direction of the bishop, the ward council develops a ward temple and family history plan that is brief, simple, and specific. The plan helps ward members gain a vision of temple and family history work.
The ward temple and family history leader or a member of the elders quorum presidency (see 5.4.1) may lead the plan’s development. A member of the Relief Society presidency may assist."
Also, I'm assuming that your reference to a monthly report refers to the Family History Activity Report (FHAR). Spot-on! That report is a wonderful barometer for the "health" of temple and family history activity in wards and stakes. While it never specifies members by name, it is an actual count of members in each unit that meet a number of key criteria being tracked by the Church, and using it to adjust ward plans and focus is a super idea!

You are correct with the "assignment" and I brought that out as a reference when doing the training. If only we could all gain that sense of responsibility immediately, wouldn't we all be so much further ahead than where we are now? Congratulations to all those wards/branches who are able to do so, unfortunately, some of us are not so fortunate, and need a little more guidance. I am there to help guide, and share suggestions of activities that could be utilized in order to help each ward reach those goals.
Thank you for your words of encouragement. We strengthen and uplift each other with our responsibilities in our respective areas so that we can meld into a unified support group helping others.

In our ward we focus our plan i n 3 areas, strengthen their testimonies, their love for the temple, and family history work. Then we developed 3 activities that will reinforce that... 1st is a Family History fair where members will have the chance to learn how to begin (creating an account and upload 4 generations). 2nd is a play about families for the eternity and the last is a family trip to the temple where we will have a baptism session (we will baptized the names we will find in the process. Our plan has 1 year of duration.
I hope this helps you.

I have been called as our Ward Temple and Family History Leader. Following the directions in Handbook 2 Section 5.4 I created a plan for the Ward Council to consider. I can send you a copy, Word Document, if you would like. Since I cannot attach a Word document to a post here send me an email at kenneth.larson@familysearch.org and I'll reply with the plan document attached.
