Calling all descendants of Johnsons from Bruceville, Knox County, Indiana, pre-civil war. Since inheriting a group of documents (which I have STILL not completely gone through) I have an interesting picture of 3 Johnson sisters: Mary Ann Johnson, KHC3-WFQ, Nancy Johnson, K1GW-7TX and Malinda Johnson, K8B2-VJP. Mary Ann is a direct ancestor of mine. What kick started this research project was an 1837 marriage license, https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/memories/KHC3-WFQ and then a "Gift Album" of Nan, a daughter of Mary Ann Johnson. This is not yet online, but parts of it are. I have compiled an interesting, and compelling but short story of the lives of the 3 sisters and their families before and through the Civil War in my comments to the marriage license. So much tragedy and hard work. Please, please, please let me know if you have additional information!

have you looked at the family tree in FamilySearch Family Tree
and used the audit trail ("Changes") log to see what users have updated records of these people and of their descendants. I would expect that to be a much more efficient means to contact descendants.

I have not not yet looked at the trails of changes for users who may be relatives, but that is an excellent idea. I have been researching other people mentioned in the "Gift Album" and bouncing their references off other the documents. I've been "living" in the 1860 and 1870 censuses for that little township for reference. Reconstructing how the Civil War disrupted families has been a very fascinating research project the last couple of days. Inheriting a pile of papers has been just as exciting as any Christmas during my childhood (if not more!)!
