I think there is some confusion here ...
.
And, that is totally understandable ...
.
The MAXIMUM Size of an "Audio" File in 15 MB (ie. Megabytes); NOT, 15 Minutes.
.
Whereas, the MAXIMUN length of "Time" that one can add "Audio" to/against a "Picture" (already) in the "Memories" appears to be limited to 5 Minutes.
.
In other words ...
.
An "Audio" File in Memories is DIFFERENT to adding "Audio" to a "Picture" (already) in the "Memories" - ie. Two (x2) separate and distinct things.
.
Regarding, the MAXIMUM Size of an "Audio" File in 15 MB (ie. Megabytes) ...
Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch', confirming this:
.
How do I upload audio files?

.
My audio file didn't upload

.
And ...

Regarding, the MAXIMUN length of "Time" that one can add "Audio" to/against a "Picture" (already) in the "Memories" appears to be limited to 5 Minutes ...

How do I record a story about a photo or document?
.
Plus, in relation to the latter, here is a 'link' to a 'FamilySearch' "Blog" Article, where you can clearly see that the MAXIMUN length of "Time" that one can add "Audio" to/against a "Picture" (already) in the "Memories" appears to be limited to 5 Minutes:
.
Add Audio to Pictures on FamilySearch.org

.
I hope this help, clear up the confusion.

https://www.familysearch.org/blog/en/familysearch-apps-oral-histories/ lists 15 minutes length (not attached to photo). It also says that it is encouraged to keep them closer to 5 minutes to make them easier to listen to, so maybe that's why the change?

@Berg Family
.
FYI
.
In relation to that 'FamilySearch; "Blog" Article that you referenced:
.
(1) That Article is now x3 Years old; and, some x2 years older that the Article I referenced.
(2) That Article is really referencing the use of "Mobile" Applications of, both, "Family Tree" & "Memories" of 'FamilySearch'.
...... [ And, is NOT referencing the use of the "Computer" ("Web") version of 'FamilySearch' ]
(3) AND, there is NO reference in that Article to ANY 'Time' Limit for the "Audio" that one is uploading.
.
I definitely stand by my previous response:
(1) MAXIMUM Size of an "Audio" File in 15 MB (ie. Megabytes); whereas,
(2) MAXIMUN length of "Time" that one can add "Audio" to/against a "Picture" (already) in the "Memories" appears to be limited to 5 Minutes
ie. Two (x2) separate and distinct things
.
Good Luck.

My audio file didn't upload
Published September 11, 2020If you try to upload an audio file to FamilySearch, and you get the message "Uploading failed," the problem is probably caused by bad encoding of the file or by a browser setting, cookies, or an extension or firewall issue.
Try the following:
- If the file is bigger than 15 MB, break it into smaller files.
- If the file format is not .m4a, .mp3, or. wav file, use a tool or website to convert the file to .mp3 format.
- If the file is in.mp3 format and the bit rate is lower than 76 kbps, use a tool or website to convert the audio bit rate to 128 kbps or higher.
- Make sure your firewall allows file uploads.
- Make sure that you do not have any cookies or browser extensions that prevent file uploads.
- Check your browser settings, and clear cookies, cache, and temporary files.
