I'm looking for census before 1890 in Puerto Rico, any ideas where I can look? Thanks in advance.
I am beginning research on my 3rd great grandparents. I like to have 3 forms of proof before adding them to the family tree. Any ideas for records before 1890 in Puerto Rico would be helpful.

It depends on what town you are researching. They are found as Documentos Municipales. They are part of the Fondo de Gobernadores Espanoles series. Not many survived. I have seen Isabela, Juana Diaz and other towns. They are not indexed and require you look at the entire film. Let me know what town and I will try to find the census for you.

Jessica, I am sorry I haven't found any Documentos Municipales for that area. The closest city with those is San Juan. I don't know how possible was for your ancestors to do their government activities that far. Here's a link to San Juan's:

Thank you for your direction. I'm going to try checking the above link. I don't think my ancestors would go that far, most likely to Ponce. But you never know. Thanks again. Have a wonderful day.

Jessica, for Ponce there are several censuses, some are locked though. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/483674?availability=Family History Library
When on Family Search make a Search, choose Catalog and search by town, normally "Puerto Rico, town name"
Census are ofter under Census, but you may find them under different names,"Cedula de Vecindad", "Registro de
x", etc.
The Ponce records may be worth looking into. I did that for Isabela (my family was from Aguadilla) and found my family there.
Since you know your family would have rather went to Ponce for their official business, then you should look in Ponce.
