Week 30 (July 19 - July 25) Pioneer Day in the United States. Were your ancestors Mormon Pioneers? If not, did they emigrate on their own pioneer trek to a new country?

Or how has someone in your family been a pioneer in their own way?  How did they buck tradition and navigate a new path?

My ancestors were not Utah Pioneers, nor members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but they were pioneers. I had family that left Germany and went to Denmark, and then later to the United States. I also have family that came directly from England or Germany to the United States.

 

My Mother traveled by ship from England to the United States in 1955. She was the wife of a young American soldier. Her ten-day voyage by ship, with an infant in her arms, must have felt like a very brave thing for a young mom. I have a photo of her from this voyage and I have located the ship passenger lists. I wish that I had asked my mom more details about this trip, but I am pleased that she recorded information about this in her journal.
