Is the name Schnebelin a derivation of Schneebeli or a completely different surname?
0 -
Schnebeli is an old spelling of what is officially today Schneebeli.
The "…in" at the end of a surname indicates a female. If the name ends with an "i" there is no double "ii".
Note that in this marriage record the name is spelled "Schneewelj" (EDB always gives standardised spellings): spellings were not fixed at the time, the pastors used the spellings they liked ;-).

I found Heinrich and Elsbeth's eight children's birth records. Are you interested in them for the Forum? It seems like a lot of work to translate so I'll leave that up to you. I wanted to list all of Elsbeth's (b 1713) siblings on her webpage and on FS.
"the spellings they liked" 😂 Very funny thought. How true.
All the best, KG

I have just come across the Familienregister Affoltern from 1748
It confirms our findings and also indicates what I had already assumed - an intermarriage with Urmi of Baregg. The family lived in premises "beim Schützenstand":
Also interesting is the register - listing several nicknames:
I have summerized the information on Heinrich Schneebeli oo1707 Elsbeth Schneebeli; summaries of the two sons' families will follow.
List of all children of Heinrich & Elsbeth: don't post all images (if Affoltern I can view them online) - just post the list of names with dates - will help to complete the forum contribution.

May I quote part of the previous post - just in case you missed it?

Sorry I did this at 6am and then my wife and I spent the last 8 hours organizing our garage. When I saw your post above I looked and realized that I forgot to hit the post button. Thanks for the reminder. KG
Thanks for everything!!!
Loved the 1748 documents!! Wonderful work! I posted them on Heinrich's page:

Thank you very much for the names & dates - have been added to Heinrich Schneebeli oo1707 Elsbeth Schneebeli … will check the baptismal entries in due course.
You write "8. Hans Heinrich Schneebeli b 25 Mar 1723 - d 25 Mar 1796 married Anna Barbara Schneebeli 18 June 1791 and had 7 children". Please, note that according to the Familienregister HH Schneebeli (1723) married Regula Zimmermann (link to the Familienregister). Have you listed the children somewhere - and what is the source of this information (own research or …)? I don't find a corresponding marriage in EDB.

The dates were taken from FS but I do have all their birth entries.

17.04.1707 Margret, + 12.12.1708
1707 den 17 des Aprelens: Margaret
Mr. Heinrich Schnebelis Schuhmacher im Haslt / Anna Hurter
So this Margret is not a daughter of Heinrich and Elsbeth Schneebeli
Correct date (entry right side same page)
1707 den 31. 8bris: Margaret
Heinrich Schnebelis Hafners / Elsbet Schnebelin
Mr. Hans Jacob Bähr Jägers, Zimmermann / Margaret Winkelmann, Mr. Jac. Hugens Hausfrau (oo 21.03.1682)
No death/burial entry 12.12.1708 found in Affoltern.
What is the source of your information?
Affoltern 29.03.1698 Schneebeli, Heinrich, "auß dem Hasel", getraut mit Hurter, Anna, "auß dem Zwilliker Dörffli"
Affoltern 01.02.1707 Schneebeli, Heinrich, "Haffners", getraut mit Schneebeli, Elisabeth, "Schmidhansen Rudi"

Wolf, I added all your translations to my website. Great work, very interesting.
One question: In the Forum under Heinrich b 1716 you say his father Heinrich was: Master craftsman, bricklayer, church administrator, (Deepl) and under Heinrich b 1683 family entry you say he is Meister, Hafner or a potter.
I must be missing something?
0 -
Father: Heinrich Schneebeli, Meister, Hafner, ≈ Affoltern 15.04.1683, + Affoltern 14.03.1751
Son: Heinrich Schneebeli, älter, ≈ Affoltern 15.11.1716, … [Meister, Maurer, Ehger., Kirchenverwalter, + Affoltern 24.01.1791]
Whatever is in one line, refers to the one person described - not the father - this includes the link to the father via "Sohn des …". If you are looking for info on the father, follow the link - will not be repeated in the son's contribution.
[Ergänzungen] indicates that this info is not from the quoted source (Familienregister), but supplemented from other sources - in this case the burial record.

WSeelentag That is helpful. I will remember that in the future.

WSeelentag Wolf, Many thanks.
Duly added to Heinrich Sr. webpage. Is your plan to translate all the children? I have detailed copies of them all posted. You probably do too. Is the plan for the Arhives to put all records online eventually? That would be a great service.
I don't want to overwhelm you but I also have:
1722 Anna Urmi baptism 22 July Father Hans Jakob mother Cathri Kleiner Knonau film page 167
We have done so much Barrage, my thought is you might want to translate that too. Let me know and will post it.
All the best, You had an amazing weekend of translating and working with records!! KG

You find Anna Urmi with her husband Heinrich Schneebeli, incl. links to her parents.
Other siblings:
Elsbeth (1713) has been dealt with.
Not sure about Heinrich (1716) and Hans Heinrich (1723). They have their own contributions - did I not post transcriptions before?
BTW - have you checked your statement "Hans Heinrich Schneebeli b 25 Mar 1723 - d 25 Mar 1796 married Anna Barbara Schneebeli 18 June 1791 and had 7 children" yet? It is in contradiction to the Familienregister! It would also be unusual to marry aged 68 - and then have 7 children 🤔.
"Barbara Schneebeli b 19 Nov 1719 - d 15 Nov 1716 married Jakob Zimmermann and had 4 children" … death date cannot be correct.
Also: no need to post Knonau records - are online now. State Archive plans to put all parishes (but not -yet- the Bürgerverzeichnisse) online - will just take some time.

Wolf, I have copied all information and translations. Very nice work. I love the information on professions. I'm glad the Archives are moving ahead with digitizing all records.
Anna Barbara Schneebeli 18 June 1791 and had 7 children"
yet? It is in contradiction to the Familienregister! It would also be unusual to marry aged 68 - and then have 7 children. Highly unlikely. We would need verification for that to be true.Regards, KG
