Need some help to determine if a child that was baptized was illegitimate or not.
At the URL below there is a baptism record on 26 Oct 1714 in the Biglen Parish, for an Anna Wyss, parents Nicolaus Wyss and Barbara Wolfh. The entry is written sideways, as are occasional other entries, in this register. Are the ones written sideways for illegitimate children?

Generally, writing entries sideways was a popular way to mark illegitimate children. This particular entry doesn't say anything about whether the child was illegitimate. On the following page is another entry written sideways that specifies that the couple had this child out of wedlock. So there is a pretty good chance that "your" child was illegitimate.

Thank you very much. This makes sense. What I didn’t mention was the father, Nicolas Wyss was married to an Anna Tomi and they had seven children during this 25 year period. He was the only Nicolas Wyss in those records for that time frame. Then he has this child in the middle of all the others by another woman, so I suspect he had a little fling going on the side.
