Trying to decipher German city from Application
I'm trying to figure out the same of the German city listed in this passport application. I've tried using the Meyers Gaz, but I'm getting stuck. The city listed, I'm not familiar with - Ober Dursingen - which is also what I read on the application. Based on what I know, I believe this person came from Bavaria or Baden-Wuert. The document is located on Ancestry:
I tried to include a screenshot, but it looks like I don't have permission to. Appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

It's not that you don't have permission to include a screenshot. The feature has been broken for everyone for several weeks.

After much searching in Meyers Gazetteer, I agree with Áine Ní Donnghaile that the most likely candidate for this place is Oberdischingen: https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/20356029
A less likely possibility might be Oberdiessen: https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/20356014 but this doesn't have the "gen" ending.

Another possibility is an area just west of Dösingen that seems to have been called Ober Dösingen. It is not directly indexed on Meyers but can be seen on the Meyers map of Dösingen labeled as "Ober-"

I think the "Ober-" refers to "Germaringen" just above . Note that there also an "Unter-Germaringen" .

@ccr1107 , I'm certain that @Ulrich Neitzel is correct.
But I have done some more digging into your ancestors records. He had a daughter Martha who married a George Edgar Hoffman. In the daughter's 1920 census in St Louis there is an aunt Pauline Ott living with them. Her naturalization records say she is from "Alt Bruesach" which of course is another unfindable village. But all her records indicate she is from Baden.
So I looked at John Ott's passport application again. I think it says "OberImsingen" which is here:
Which just happens to be in Breisach which is probably the place written in his sister Pauline's naturalization record:
There is also another brother Anton Ott living with Pauline in the 1920 census also from Baden but I haven't found any additional info about him yet.

I did also find a poorly indexed 1917 naturalization record (no image) for Anton Ott in East St Louis that says he is from "Oberringingen"

That led me to discover that a very nice tree already exists for your Johann Ott (MQG4-YWD) and wife Karolina Maier (MQG4-Y4Q) with many many ancestors identified:

I cannot figure out how to fix the links. The marriage is on the same film as the births above. It's on image 549 of 829. The tree can be found by using the familysearch ID for Johann Ott or Karoline Maier.

This is amazing - I can not thank you enough. Sometimes it's more fun researching other's projects than your own. This particular family line has been challenging for me to figure out.
I have been researching Karolina Ott who arrived in St. Louis in 1890. The following year she was married and started her family. Half of her children were born in St. Louis and the rest in Milwaukee, WI. She never shared where she was born or who her parents were. The only story I've heard, is she was a mayor's daughter and she ran away because she didn't want to marry who her parents picked out. I found a copy of her death certificate, which gave me her parents name. Census records say she was born in Bavaria.
So when I was looking at the baptismal record for her 4 children born in St. Louis. Joseph & John Ott were listed as sponsors for one of the children. Another child listed Johanna Ott as a sponsor, but it looks like she had a stand-in. So since I can't find any information on her, I'm going to see if she is in the church records of Oberrimsingen. Fingers crossed!

Are interested in the Karolina Ott that married Engelbert Wenzler in St Louis 9 June 1891? What were the parents names on her death certificate? Did it give her place of birth?
A Carlina Ott of the right age immigrating in 1890. In far right column it seems to say she is traveling from "Gungberg" or "Gunzberg"
If you are sure she is from Bavaria, there are two villages named Gunzenberg there and a Guntsberg.

I've tried looking to find her the church records in Günzburg in the past, but wasn't successful. Maybe I'll start with Günzberg church records and then start working my way out from the city center.
Her husband was from Balgheim, Baden-Wüerttemburg, so it wouldn't surprise me if she was from SW Bavaria. She was suppose to have some friends pick her up from the port in St. Louis and they sent Engelbert in their place because he was a driver for Anheuser-Busch. I do know they were Catholic. Karolina's granddaughter, has 2 DNA matches from Bühl, which is near Günzberg, but I couldn't find Karolina in those church books.
@Ulrich Neitzel - thank you for the clarification - I appreciate the help from someone more familiar with the area. My good friend lives in Gundelfingen an der Donau, maybe I'll ask her if she knows any Otts.
