Similar names? - Alswede Parish
My 5th great grandmother, Anna Margrethe Schepers, the younger, is supposed to be born in Alswede parish in about 1723. I see that sometimes women have 3 names and other times 2 or occasionally 1 name. The following are variations that I have found and would like to know, if in your opinion, which ones could also be her name:
An Margr,
Ann Margaret,
Ann Margr. Elisabeth,
Anna Margarete,
Anna Margarethe,
Anna Margr.,
Marg. Ann,
Marg. Ilsebe,
Margrethe Ilsebey,
Margarit Lisabeth,
Margrete Gertraut,
Margarete Ilsabein,
Margarethe Ilsabein,
Margarethe Ilsabey,
Margarethe Lisabeth
On the same note, is there another name variation for "Ilsabein" -- like Elizabeth?
Thank you,
Jenny

Thank you - it does get confusing when a person is sometimes cited with the "saints" first name and then the middle name and other times with just the middle name. I find that in this parish that mostly the person is cited with the same name(s) in each christening, marriage and burial . . . but not always.🙂

Hello @Jenealogy,
The first six names in your list (variations of Anna Margaretha) could be your ancestor's name.
The name "Ilsabein" is a variant of "Elizabeth".
The other names beginning with "Margarethe" and variations thereof seem less likely to be the person you are researching -- this is said with the caveat that I haven't done the research for this person.
Hope this helps.

You're welcome, @Jenealogy.
Regarding people with both a first and middle name:
You'll notice many women in Germany have the first name "Anna" or "Maria" and then a middle name. It is likely that in everyday life these women would be known by that second name.
The same applies to men in Germany with the extremely popular first name "Johann" and then a middle name. They too likely went by that middle name in everyday life.
But note this is not a hard-and-fast rule.
