Lucky you! The family is listed in www.arcinsys.niedersachsen.de , the archive inventory system for the state archives of Lower Saxony. See https://www.arcinsys.niedersachsen.de/arcinsys/detailAction.action?detailid=v4448785&icomefrom=search This is from a list generated by the regional mining office in Clausthal-Zellerfeld:
Emigration of Christan Grau, a miner, age 35 years, and wife Johanne Meissner from Lautenthal, along with four children, three girls ages 8,6, and 4 years, and a boy, age 2. An infant daughter had apparently died before the journey began. The wife Johanne Meissner died on board ship on 11 November 1848 at the age of 28 years.
passport received 25 October 1849.
There is also another entry fpt a later emigrant family, also going o Adelaide from Lautenthat, where the wife's maidenname was Grau. See https://www.arcinsys.niedersachsen.de/arcinsys/detailAction.action?detailid=v4435362&icomefrom=search
Lautenthal is a town in the Harz mountains with an Evangelical parish. Unfortunately the records available on FamilySearch don't cover the time period you need. Eventually these church records will be available on the subscription website www.archion.de, but they are not there at this time. You can check periodically if they have been added.
The only way you can get information right now is through the church book archive or the parish in Germany. This page contains links and addresses http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Bergstadt_Lautenthal If you would like to hire a genealogist, you can find qualified individuals at www.berufsgenealogie.net .

Thank you so very much Baerbel, I couldn't be more happy with the information you've given me. Would there be a site for birth certificates or would this be in the future of parish records. Again, thank you, Beverley

You are welcome. I'm glad this worked out. Prior to 1876 you will primarily need church records. Civil registration began on 1 Jan 1876 in this region.
