Here's the best I can do with the translation - it looks like the very edge of the right-hand side has been cut off, so it's difficult to make out some of the words.

My dear Irene and family!
I have been wanting to write to you for quite some time. My thoughts very often turn to you. Above all, I want to ask how it's going with all of you? Are you all healthy? Werner and I are healthy, except that Werner had the flu once. But he is working again now. My husband was very ill this year. He has had kidney disease for a while now. His kidneys function too slowly and so he got ureic poisoning. His blood was totally poisoned and all the organs in his body. In addition he had a duodenal ulcer. Yes, der Irene, my husband was about to die. He was in the hospital here. But the doctors here could do no more to help him. We took him to the University Medical Clinic in Frieberg, to a Professor who saved his life. His lung wound had deteriorated badly. Now he has to live on a diet. Totally without meat, sausage, cheese, or eggs. But lots of fruit and vegetables. He has to avoid dishes with egg whites altogether. My husband can no longer work. This illness has cost already us a great deal of money and will continue to cost us more. Dear Irene, when one thinks that things are going better,

then some other uncomfortable thing comes along. The world is also so unsettled, one cannot really enjoy oneself about something. How is your dear daughter Joan? She must already be a pretty young lady. Now the long winter is coming again. We have not had any snow yet, but it probably won't be long. Does Joan ski? That is Werner's favorite winter sport. On 17 November he will be 19 years old. I turned 48 on 21 October and my husband is also 48. So now I have written everything that is going on with us. How is your dear brother and his family? Please give them our best greetings. Dear Irene, please write again soon, I am already looking forward to it. We are so far apart from one another. Now I will close my letter for today. Greetings from far off for you, your dear husband and Joan, from
Your cousin Frieda, my husband and Werner
I'm including a picture of me for you. This dog belongs to a cousin of my husband's. The picture was taken in a field outside of Villingen.
