Advice on where to look for records
Hello everyone!
I am researching my Schmalz relatives that immigrated to Poland around 1800. There is a book by Erich Weise on southwestern German settlers who were recruited between 1799-1804. There is a Christian Schmalz with a family of five listed as coming from Württemberg and settled in Springberg by Gross-Gollo, Amt Klecko, Kreis Gnesen, southeast of Wongrowitz. I believe he is my ancestor. I found an entry on the Odessa3 website that lists a Christian Schmalz with a family of five from Dietersweiler, Württemberg, Germany. Familysearch has the Lutheran records for Dietersweiler, but I haven't been able to find my family in them. Does anyone know if there were Catholic records for that area and how to access them? I have tried contacting the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg, who referred me to the Diözesanarchiv Rottenburg. I sent a message, but never heard back.

Have you tried the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart collection on FamilySearch?

Thank you for your response. I think I have looked at that collection at one time, but I'm not sure. There isn't an option to search the records individually, and Dietersweiler isn't in the inventory list for that collection. I checked on Meyers Gazetteer and it's suggesting the closest Catholic parish would have been in Freudenstadt. What few results show up when I search for the surname Schmalz aren't my family. I'm not sure if they would have been Lutheran or Catholic. I'll keep looking.

According to http://gov.genealogy.net/item/show/object_180089 there is only a reformed parish of Dietersweiler.
