Help with name of a town
Hello,
I am trying to find the home town listed for my ancestor on his marriage record. I think it is Bilick but was wondering if anyone could confirm. Thank you Patricia

The place name is better readable in the next record. It looks like "Bilck", but I can't find a place with that name in Meyers Gazetteer and neither on the map in the surroundings of Weckhoven (https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/21085080).

@Ulrich Neitzel Thank you. There is a Bilk that isn't too far. Is it possible that Bilck maybe the Latin version of Bilk?

Do you mean the Bilk which is now a part of Düsseldorf (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilk)? That would be possible; "Bilck" is then rather a spelling variation.

@Ulrich Neitzel I found the church books for Bilk. Interestingly, I found an indexed only record on familysearch for a marriage record for these same ancestors a few days before in Bilk and then they married in Hoisten in the prior document. Would you know if traditionally a couple would marry in both their home towns? I noticed that marriage record above has some text that I couldn't figure out. Maybe it mentions that they were married in both places. Are you proficient with Latin?

Most probably the other "marriage" record is just a record about the banns. When spouses came from different parishes banns were usually read in both.
In the record above the statement is: 10 Martii facta in proclamationibus et tempore clauso dispensatione matrimonio juncti sunt which means "they were married on 10 March after the dispensation from the banns and the closed time". Closed time means the period of lent when marriages otherwise were not allowed.
