What would this occupation/post from 1758 Alsace birth record be?
I cannot make out the occupation for the second baptismal witness's father: looks to be Schurens = Shearer? for the first word, no idea for the next two words StE or VE? wand ?en. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The last part could be "verwandten". There exists a word/title "Schutzverwandter" who is basically a legal resident without the full rights of a citizen (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzverwandter) . But the first part here looks indeed like "Schurens" not like "Schutz". However, I can't find any fitting German word that is or begins with "Schurens".

Hello Tom,
From the online site Wörterbuchnetz see the following link for the word "Schurmer": https://woerterbuchnetz.de/?sigle=ElsWB&lemid=S02223 Note that this definition is from a dictionary of Alsatian dialects.
"dasige(n)" before the word "Schurmer" in the second example translates as: there; at that place; here (from Thode).

@Ulrich Neitzel : That might be it, but what would explain the random loop in the middle of the 'ver' and the stylized loops for the 't' in 'ter' -- as if it is a capital letter. Also, I just found another record with the same witness, which just cites something like 'dasigen Schurmers'. Curious!

Hi @Robert Seal_1 - thanks for that tip. I had actually consulted that site, but didn't realize that there was an Alsace-specific dictionary there. Now I know! I wasn't able to make any sense, though, of the definition. How did you interpret it?

Basically, some type of speaker, but it was confusing to me as well.

Thanks @Robert Seal_1 ! Will leave it as a small mystery!
