Suggestions for Irish Catholic dioceses and parishes
1) Why are Catholic dioceses nested under counties? There are 32 counties in Ireland but only 26 Catholic dioceses. Most dioceses cover parts of two or more counties. Surely Catholic dioceses should be at the same level as counties ? Check the map here Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI and click between 'Show Dioceses' and 'Show Counties' and then zoom in to see the parishes and how a small but significant number of them are split across two counties.
2) Consistent naming would be a good idea - 'Diocese of ABC' or 'ABC Diocese' but not a mish-mash of both
3) Catholic parishes should be nested under the appropriate Catholic diocese to distinguish them from civil parishes.

Please would somebody with the necessary priveleges add the word 'Irish' to the title of this discussion. It should be 'Suggestions for Irish Catholic dioceses and parishes'

Maile L's "Done" refers I think to just the adding of "Irish" to the title of this discussion.
The original 3 suggestions are still open for discussion and comment.

This message is from the Authorities Places Team:
"Thank you for your interest in helping us improve FamilySearch Places.
We have updated the names of the Catholic dioceses in Ireland so they are all uniform. We have also updated their parent place to be directly under the appropriate country instead of the counties.
At this time, we are not nesting Catholic parishes directly under the diocese. Because of the way records are traditionally described, it is often more helpful to place parishes within towns, cities, and counties to aid in their recognition. We are currently working on solutions to make the connection between Catholic parishes and diocese more clear as Related Places.
Thank you for drawing our attention to this area so we can keep our information up to date. If you have any additional research or knowledge about this place, please let us know.
We appreciate your patience while we researched your request. Thank you for your interest in improving FamilySearch Places."
