Obtaining German Records from 1500-1700
I am brand new to this group and my name is Mike Klinger. Have been doing my German ancestory and am stuck back in the 1500's. Back in the day they spelled the name as Klingler. When they came to the US they dropped the L and the name changed to Klinger. I met a lady virtually online who had this incredible photo (attached) that gave me names, birth and death, marriage, children etc. Wonderful! When I asked her where she got it she said it was a book and she could not remember where or how she got it. Does anyone in this group have a suggestion of where I might find this wonderful resource of a book?
Thank you!
Mike Klinger

It's possible that the page came from an Ortsfamilienbuch - a local heritage book, or it might be from a family genealogy book. There are many OFBs available online here - https://ofb.genealogy.net/ - and perhaps your town is among them. The site is organized by Germany state, then towns alphabetically within each state. Obviously, this doesn't represent all of the available OFBs, many of which are only available in print, so you can look here for a list of print OFBs - https://wiki.genealogy.net/index.php/Kategorie:Ortsfamilienbuch. These are simply listed alphabetically by town.
The FamilySearch Wiki also has more on OFBs here - https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Germany_Town_Genealogies_and_Parish_Register_Inventories_on_the_Internet. Some OFBs have been digitized and are available on FamilySearch. The Allen County Library and the St. Louis County Library both have large collections of printed volumes.
If you go to the Search/Books option in FamilySearch and simply enter the surname Klingler, there are several volumes that come up and can be viewed online.
Good luck with your search.
