Suggestions for this occupation from 1756 marriage record?
This occupation reads as 'Schirmers' but doesn't correspond to anything. Any suggestions for the correct reading of it and what occupation it is? It's from the 1756 marriage record for my direct ancestors in Oberhoffen-sur-Moder in Alsace.
Thanks. Tom

Thanks @DeTe1955 ! Seems like Schirmer comes up as a 'patron' or someone of quite high authority, which doesn't seem consistent with this family marrying into regular townfolk/farmer. Perhaps the 'guard/protector' version would make sense, though.
