Translation of a Civil Marriage Document
Please translate this document found in the Civil Marriage record for Hilari/Hilgard Herbst and Anna Elisabetha Lares in Oppau. I am thinking this document is written in French, not German. It mentions Hilari's father, Jean Jost Herbst and his mother, Marie Catherine Schroeder, and I believe her second spouse, Franz Rode.

These documents are all official correspondence that provide the proofs of birth and legitimacy that were required as part of the marriage banns (or proclamation) process. As is typical under the French civil marriage process, the local registrar had to obtain certification of the birth of each of the marriage partners, consent of their parents, death of a parent, and testimony from another village (if one partner was born and/or living elsewhere). In the French archives, these documents are typically kept in a separate book, along with the text of the proclamation that had to be posted/read two or three times in the local community.
The documents on this film (image 6 - 14) are typically what would be found in a French record book. They are official letters from other government officials answering the questions above.

Without translating the entire document, this appears to be a letter of consent from Hilarius (Hilgard, Hilari, Hillary) Herbst's mother, Marie Catherine neè Schroeder, and her current husband, Francois (Franz) Rode, approving the marriage of her son. There are other witnesses to the document from Frankenthal, which may be where the Rode family was living at the time. Both Marie Catherine and her husband Francois signed with a mark.
One line of the document reads, in part:
"Marie Catherine neè Schroeder mariee en premier lit avec Jean Jost Herbst en son vivant laboureur ..."
"Marie Catherine neè Schroeder married first with Jean Jost Herbst, in his lifetime a laborer ..."
So your assumption was correct, that Jean Jost had died and Marie Catherine remarried.
Image 7 is an extract from the birth record of Hilarius Herbst, dated 14 September 1784.
Image 11 is an attest to the death of Jean Jost Herbst. It says in part:
"Jean Jost Herbst, journalier a Framersheim est decede au dit lieu le seize Decembre de l'an mil sept cent quatre vingt dix huit ..."
"Jean Jost Herbst, day laborer at Framersheim died at the said place on the sixteenth of December of the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety-eight ..."
Image 12 is an extract from the birth record of Elisabetha Lares in Oppau, dated August 3, 1786.
Additionally, I found the marriage record in the Catholic Church records of Oppau on Archion. It does not mention the names of either set of parents. If you would like an image copy, send me a private message.

Thank you, Bob, for your help! I was hoping for a translation, hoping there was going to be some small piece of information in these documents that will help me with Hilari's parents. Hilari was born in Framersheim and his father died there, but if I am remembering correctly, one of the documents that I have not posted yet had Jost Herbst listed as a plowman in Oppau. I know that Hilari's mother was married a second time to Franz Rode. I have not been able to locate a marriage record nor a death record for his mother and step-father. One of these civil registration records mentions Ormsheim which I am wondering if it is Ormsheimhof. I looked it up in the Meyers Gaz, but no church was listed for that village. I don't know if they would have been part of Oppau or another town. In your writing, you mentioned that they lived in Frankenthal.
Another confusing part, most of these records show Framersheim, but unless I am reading the very first page incorrectly, it lists Freimersheim. In Hilari's death record, it also lists Freimersheim. I have looked for records in both towns for this family and have come up empty. Unfortunately, there is a gap in records for Framersheim. Since this family was Catholic, I have also looked at Matricula Online, but they did not have the missing records either.

On the Ecclesiastical page for Ormsheimerhof, Meyers lists the following nearby villages as having Catholic parishes:
Hessheim, 1 mile
Eppstein, 2 miles
Lambsheim, 2 miles
and Frankenthal (1 mile) as having a Catholic church.
I'd go in order by distance looking to see which one has the Ormsheimhof records.
