My ancestor, Joh. Moritz Rottger oder Schaper(1722-1782), you have helped me with him before. His burial record says that he had 18 children by the same wife, Anna Margrethe and that he was " Der Altermann und Kirchen Provisor Johann Moritz Röttcher modo Schäfer". The child below is the 11th one that I've found so far. Could please help me especially with at he was the description that is given for the father, Joh. Moritz?

Translation:

On 29 September, the feastday of St. Michael the Archangel, the church elder Schäper from Vehlage had his legitimate little son baptized, name. Johann Friederich; godparent Henrich Christian Roettger from "den Höfen"

Once again, thank you! I do have a problem getting the umlaut letters to show the umlaut in this forum even though I am doing the CTRL+SHFT+:+[letter].

Hi Jenny

the classical method for Umlauts on an English computer keyboard is to use these combinations:

• ä = alt + 0228
• ö = alt + 0246
• ü = alt + 0252
• Ä = alt + 142
• Ö = alt + 153
• Ü = alt + 154
• ß = alt + 0223

The numbers must be entered on the number pad!

Otherwise, if there was no other way, a German writer would replace ä with ae, o with oe, and ü with ue. This is how it was done on classical typewriters when they did not have keys for the umlauts
