Transcription Request - Burial record 1849 - Schönberg, Plön-Segeberg
I think my transcription is accurate, but please confirm...
Christian Mundt, [Abschiedr?] in
[Wischönberg?]. Er hinterl[aßt] 3 Kinder:
1. Maria [verh.?] Husen, 2. Hans,
3. Margreth [wittwe?] Horst, [??]
2 [Enkel?] [von?] d[er?] verst[orben?] Sohn Hinrich
a. Christian, b. Lena und 1
[Enkel?] [von?] d[er?] verst[orben?] Sohn Paul na-
mens? Christian. [Still ein geläut?] Alt. 85y 4m
-------
If the transcription of the town is accurate, that is interesting because there is a village of "Wisch" and the church town of "Schönberg".

___?Enkel von s[seinem]? verst[orbenen] Sohn Paul na-

Comment: Abschinder is a flayer. The location name Wischönberg is indeed strange, like a contraction of Wisch and Schönberg.

Viele dank!
"Flayer"... as in flaying of wheat to knock out the seed from the heads?
Now that's what I call job specialization!

A question relative to dec'd children... If a dec'd child had no grandchildren, would it be common for that child to not even be listed in the parent's burial record? I ask because Christian's wife died 18 yrs earlier and in her burial record it mentions two living grandchildren of another son Claus who was deceased, yet neither those grandchildren or son Claus are mentioned in Christian's burial record.

It may be that Claus' grandchildren died in the meantime or that they moved away and the scribe did not know about them.
Re: Flayer - I am not sure if this is the correct translation. Abschinder or Schinder means a man who takes care of dead animals and flays them (takes the skin off).
