I'm looking for information on one of my ancestors, Teunis Jansen Slijkhuis. His information on my f
Teunis is the father of Jan Slijkhuis, born in 1722 and married to Mechtelt Eekhof. Their son was named Teunis and was born in 1762 and married Mechtelina Jurriens in 1808. Their son was Michiel Slijkhuis, married to Janna Nijhof in 1830. Their son was Martinus T. Slijkhuis, born in 1833 and married to Geesje Lambers (or Lammers or Lammerson) and they immigrated to Pella, Iowa, USA with their family in 1862. I've had great luck finding family records as far back as I have, but I seem to have hit a wall when I came to Teunis. Any help would be appreciated!

My tree shows the death place for Teunis (born in 1692) as Twello, Gelderland, and the others were born in Twello, Wilp and Teague until Martinus who was born in Apeldoorne. I haven't been able to find his birth record in Twello in 1692 but I did find one for a Jan Slijkhuis to Teunis Slijkhuis in 1697 who could maybe be a sibling? I thought his birth date may have been recorded wrong on my tree but if he was married in 1717 he had to be born before that. I think I may have found Teunis' marriage record to Steventje Hendricks in 1717 in Twello, and I found a birth record for Adriana Slijkhuis in 1728 (in Twello) that I think may be Jan Slijkhuis' sister but I'm not sure.
Martinus changed the name spelling to Slykhuis after he immigrated in 1872 and that's the spelling we have in our family now.

Where and how are you searching for these people? Are you using Wiewaswie and Openarch, the links to which are off to the right in blue? FamilySearch could also be a place to find them. Are you using those sites?

I've mostly been using Family Search but I've also searched on Wiewaswie and Openarch, along with Genealogy Online and various other sites a Google search of their names turned up.

OK, those are the places to look. Where was Teunis born? We need a town/parish in order to research further. We hope that the records do not end at the time period where you hit the brick wall.

His father would be Jan Aarts(!), hence Slijkhuis is matrilinear, and he should be on this page along with
a big part of the branch. Birthdate 1650.
If you like to do further research for his name, i would suggest to read it the way it was spelled in that period.Theunis Slijckuisz or some variants of it.Not that anything was placed online in that days, but some is indexed nowadays.
