Translation
Date of baptism: 9 November 1783
entry 28
Name of child: Christina Küenzi
Father: Hans Küenzi, sailor, citizen of Jaberg.
Mother: Mareÿ Streit, citizen of Kirchdorf.
Witnesses: Jenz Küenzi, citizen of Jaberg. Christina Streit from the Jusel. ? in Rieo, citizen of Jaberg.
Questions: The baptism record for Christina lists the place of citizenship for her parents but not their residence. If the residence is listed in a baptism record, sometimes I assume that was the birth place of the child. So how would one find the birth place of ancestors who lived in canton Bern during this era?
Also how would I find the approximate birth year of ancestors, other than by the year of baptism? Were infants usually baptized soon after birth or months later?
I haven't seen the ages of a groom and bride in a marriage record from canton Bern, which would give an estimated birth year. Is that usual in the church records during 18th and 19th centuries in canton Bern?
Also I haven't searched for a death or burial record yet. Perhaps those records list the age of the person which would help estimate the year of birth?
Thank you.

The baptism record for Christina lists the place of citizenship for her parents but not their residence. If the residence is listed in a baptism record, sometimes I assume that was the birth place of the child. So how would one find the birth place of ancestors who lived in canton Bern during this era?
If baptised in Kirchdorf, and no residence mentioned, the residence will most likely be in that parish.
Also how would I find the approximate birth year of ancestors, other than by the year of baptism? Were infants usually baptized soon after birth or months later?
The logical next step would be to search for the parents' marriage - unless you are unlucky, this will have been in Kirchdorf.
I haven't seen the ages of a groom and bride in a marriage record from canton Bern, which would give an estimated birth year. Is that usual in the church records during 18th and 19th centuries in canton Bern?
I haven't seen a sufficient number of Bern marriage records to answer that question. Their parents could be mentioned, which would be a great help - but I have seen records with just the bridegroom's/bride's names - then it may become a problem with common names.
Also I haven't searched for a death or burial record yet. Perhaps those records list the age of the person which would help estimate the year of birth?
That's the next possibility - just rather time consuming.

Your answers and comments are helpful. Thank you! I'll also keep in mind that church records from the earlier era often didn't contain detailed information i.g. place of residence, age of a person etc., unlike the more detailed information in records from the later part of 19th and early 20th centuries. Occasionally I forget to consider that when I'm researching the earlier records, so the vital information I'm searching for is just not available.
Thank you for the transcription corrections and links to Ortsnamen. The maps and information there are helpful too.
