“Tracking down a document using an FHL Film Number.”
Hello Readers,
“Tracking down a document using an FHL Film Number.”
I like to accompany my ‘Documentary Finds’ with a 'URL link' to a copy of the original document holding said information, to assist any future researchers, subject of course to any copyright issues.
I have successfully found information on both FamilySearch(‘FS’) and Ancestry(‘A’) concerning a x3 great grandfather, both ‘FS’ & ‘A’ have the briefest of details accompanied by a “Text Only-No Image” report and ‘A’ has added a seven-digit FHL film number.
I would very much like to gain sight of the original document using the FHL film number.
On several occasions over recent weeks I have used the standard ‘FS’ website search facility adding the seven-digit film number in the appropriate box towards the bottom of the page and each time I have received back a “Something Went Wrong” report.
Should in theory, I be able to view the original document from home by using the standard FS search protocols, if so what is the most likely reason for me receiving back the "Something Went Wrong" report, or would I be better served by obtaining an appointment at the local Family History Centre and using their expertise?

Hi John,
I am going to refer this question to @JBPurdie as she works in a Family History Library and should be able to answer this question for you. Thank you for your patience.
Kind Regards,

It all depends which film you are trying to access, as you didn't give us the Film No. you can either make an appointment with your local Family History Centre or contact FamilySearch by email - eu_support@FamilySearch.org giving details of the film you are trying to access.
If you prefer to come back to us please do so.
We would be glad to hear further from you so that we can assist.
If you follow that link above it should give you reason you are getting an error message.
You can get the link to email eu_support@familysarch.org in the contact us feature on the community page after you sign in.
We look forward to hearing from you again in the near future.
Regards
JBPurdie
