Hello My Name is Perry Morris Temple and FamilySearch Leader in my Branch it is my wonderful opportunity to contribute my first discussion with you. I am sure there have been other similar Discussions like mine.

What has been your most memorable activity that has created long lasting excitement for the youth in your local units?

At our next Branch FamilySearch Team Huddle I would like to share with the members of our team some golden nugget that has taken FamilySearch to the next higher level for all of you.

Our Branch FamilySearch Library Center is open twice a week on Wednesday evening 6:30 to 8:30 and the other is after our last block on Sunday afternoon as with every Center we would be so excited to see our Library occupied to capacity.

I initially inquired if there are chat rooms for other leaders and consultants where we can share ideas and success stories.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Have a wonderful Weekend.

    Thank you,

      @Perry Morris

Start with the youth leaders. Get sometime on youth night and encourage stories from parents and grandparents. There are books that have "30 questions that you want to know about,,," I have found many kids know very little about parents' interests when they were their age. Then work backward. What do older generations remember about …. Getting them signed up for FamilySearch is good along the way but research starts with the living. We tried FH fairs, time in the library "playing" in research, and finding ancestors but it was hard to maintain interest. Questions that the kids bring up are best. "How did you meet?" "What did you do on your first date?" "What was your first job?" "What qualities did you look for in a spouse?" Asking grandparents those questions are always fun! It can become a history lesson. No texts, cellphones! Once you build an interest, start having them do research in newspapers, etc. Don't forget aunts and uncles. Old photographs are fun, too. Family History starts with the family! I will always remember how excited my dad was when we looked through old news articles at a library. It brought back memories for him and excitement for me. I love this group!

      Hello Irv Schuetzner,

So wonderful to have read your comment and input so very helpful and excited to try those suggestions out on my Branch Members I am sure one of them will pop and contribute to our center greatly. Something soon has to pop we are not getting a ton of buzzing activity here in this small Branch we are made up of mostly Military Personnel who are coming and going quite often and more transfers are possible with the implementation of the New Presidential Administration on how long we keep Training Officers in their base the length of time has been cut shorter because of it you see it is great for them since they have their sights set of better geography att their next base assignment. Most of these Branch Members are in no imaginable way focused on FamilySearch even if engaged in a conversation face to face the response is they just do not have the spare time. We have had more participation from non-members.

We are in the process of having a FamilySearch Sign displayed outside next to the sidewalk of our Chapel to promote our Center.

I look forward to your continued correspondence with me.

      Thank you.

      Brother Perry Morris

Don't think that things are not going well! Remember the ONE! I'm sure those who have been deployed don't always want to look back immediately. Also, there are many companies who transfer managers every 2-3 years. Student wards have huge turnover also. I was a bishop once in a ward that had 15-20 families move out every June and the same number move in, in August! Your comment about non-members is a bright spot! Your branch is a missionary tool, too! Not long ago, a General Authority commented that when asked, people could not explain why they do genealogy. He said it was because the Spirit, touch their heart an told them they needed to! Your center is a very important place in the branch! You can't see all the people touched on both sides of the veil, but we have been promised that they are there.

We also are in the stages for displaying a sign outside next to the highly traveled street right in front of our chapel. I have been saying we need one and so with a little WD80 it's moving forward.

Your entire comment was so insightful It brought back memories of living in Logan surrounded by young eager couples who's focus was on graduation there are a rare few of them who were immersed in Genealogy who kept doing it when they left home. Of course when I was in Logan I served two service missions for "FamilyHistory but not a leader in my ward for it. I started out in one of the North Logan Wards manning the actual supply library checking out materials out on Sunday and had my laptop with me to create new FamilyHistory User Accounts we did not have an official FH/FS Library Center.

I know we belong to a FamilySearch Group but really if we are going to place a sign out on the front of the building shouldn't we make sure that it indicates Genealogy somewhere in the text since we do work with many other sights and programs to do the searching????

If you have been in this group for a great while would you be able to introduce me to some of your long time peers to reach out to me in a similar manner that we have been doing?

Thank you ever so much for your continued support and guidance. you sure put the "Family" into FamilySearch for sure.
