WORKAROUND: Family Group Trees is a total mess.
The program switches between the two trees without warning and one can never tell where they are. Enter a person in Family Group Trees and it does not always appear in the Group Tree.
The solution is emotionally difficult, but very simple - Enter everyone as DECEASED. Problem solved. All trees agree.

I'm just another user, but have a couple of comments. Please be aware that Family Tree consists of three types of spaces. Your private space, family group spaces, and the general tree space. Your private space contains living people you have entered in Family Tree under just your account. A family group contains living people created in the group or copied into the group by the various members of the group. The general tree contains all deceased people.
By marking all the living people you have entered in your account or a family group as deceased, you have not improved anything. You have simply moved all your living people from a private area to the general public area where all the information about them in the tree is openly visible to the all Family Tree users.
This is a major violation of multiple privacy laws worldwide and probably a major violation of the FamilySearch terms of use (I'm not going to dig through those now). It is also major breach of trust with those living people whose information you are sharing with the world.
Overall it is a terrible idea and you need to mark all those living people as living immediately.

@Donald Findley Switlick It can be very frustrating working with new and experimental tools in the FamilySearch system. Because they are new you are more likely to run into glitches. As you and other users report these glitches, the product team and engineers are able fix them, making the whole system better for all users. If you are able to give us some examples of how "The program switches between the two trees without warning" it will help us to locate the trouble and come up with a solution for it.
Can you give the steps that you were taking, what you expected to happen and what actually did occur? It would be great if you could include screenshots of the process as well. And if you can include what operating system and browser you use it will help to pinpoint whether is only occurs in specific instances or if everyone will bump into it.
Please know that we hear your frustrations and truly want this product to work well for those that choose to use it. Thank you for your help.
