Hello, I found my ancestor's surname in the 1867 Schwerin Census. I am unable to translate the census headers and then apply them to the entry for my ancestor. I'm most interested in the "2"…is that for the number of children? I believe the "1" is for male/husband and the other "1" for female/wife.

Can you explain why a few "families" share the same entry number, eg 181.

Thank you!

Here is the translation of the headers -

    1. Designation of the house [i.e. house number, might be a multi-family house]
    2. Designation of the household, according to the name of the head [of household]; (designation of the institution)
    3. Number of the household list
    4. Sex. Number of people on Column 4 Male
    5. and column 5 Female
    6. Family status - number of people according to 6. Unmarried
    7. Married
    8. Widowed
    9. Divorced
    10. Citizenship - number of people from Mecklenburg-Schwerin
    11. number of people from other places
    12. Type of stay for people who are temporarily in the census location - North German and Zollverein shippers
    13. Travelers at hotels
    14. Guests of families
    15. All Others

As to your questions, multiple families may live in the same building, so 6? families in house 180, 4 families in house 181, but each is assigned an individual household number, 356 though 365. The 4th column is the number of males in the household, the 5th the number of females. The 6th column lists the number of unmarried people in the household, so probably children. The 7th column lists the number of married people in the household, and you'll see that this entry is always 2 in the sample you provided.
