is it possible to find out , or are there at all, records in india about the passengers of the ships that went to surinam south america in 1884? they left from calcutta.

cause we only have the lists of names from when they arrived in surinam. but my great great grandmother changed the names of her children when she arrived there. my gg grandmother registered in surinam under the name maryam modaheb. cant find much on the last name and i found out she was just partly indian. she was italian and indian jewish and possibly also english but not sure about that one. she was on the peshwa and laleham

Records about the departure of people from most countries at the time period you are searching are generally pretty slim. You may have a few options since it looks like you know the ship. Read https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/India_Emigration_and_Immigration paying special attention to the sources which are named as giving information about ship departures. They may be worth checking to see if more information is provided than this article indicates.

Near the bottom of the article is a link to the East Indian Dispersion Project. It probably won't give you the easy answer that we'd like but you may learn a few tips about how they are working to solve their questions. Contact them to see if they have any advice due to their experience.
