Dear Brother and Sister in Law. Firstly, thank you very much for the Christmas package I received this week. It came a little late, but I was very glad to receive it. Everything was well preserved. I was most pleased to receive the chess and card games. I had written to my wife that she should send me nothing. The poor thing would save up to send me something, even though they have nothing. Yes, you can believe it is a misery at home. But the Nazis do not care and if everything perishes. My son was killed in action in Russia in March 1944. I don't know if my wife is still in Cologne. When I was at home in mid 1942, half of Cologne was already in ruins. Today probably not much more will stand. If possible, please come and visit me. I work in the locksmith's shop. Best regards to all of you, Bernhard

My address is: Heger Bernhard, 8 W.G. 16910 GO:5, Camp Campbell Prisoner Of War Camp, Box 20 G.P:G., New York, N.Y. U.S.A.
