Any research in Italy strictly requires page-by-page searching of the original records. It is impossible to simply type names into a search engine and get results! Of course, at the back of each year's records, there is usually an index, which speeds things up considerably.
If you do not speak Italian, you will need to at least learn to recognize the names and family relationships described. Because the records all have a standard format, this is doable with some patience and practice. Some form translations are available on the FamilySearch wiki here: https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Italy_Civil_Registration#Information_Recorded_in_Civil_Registers and of course don't be shy to ask for help in this forum translating any records you find regarding your ancestors.
To start, search for your most recent ancestor born or married in Italy to obtain their parents' names, then the parents' marriage and respective births, and so on and so forth. Using online civil registration records, we can get back to any ancestor who died after 1820 plus their respective parents.
Online records 1867-1901: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2051639 (Note: records for the year 1883 are actually miscategorized under Marineo rather than of Mezzojuso)
