Translation to Explain Missing Marriage Record for Canico, Madeira
I am trying to find the marriage record for my fourth great grandparents: Jose Coelho & Quiteria de Jesus. They were married sometime in 1800-1802 in Canico, Madeira Islands. All the Canico marriage records are available on FamilySearch.org and Arquivo Regional e Biblioteca Pública da Madeira but I noticed that the book that would have the record are missing some entries. Pages are not missing, just entries for DEC 1800 - MAY 1801 and DEC 1801 - FEB 1802. There is an entry in book during that period which I think explains why there are no marriage entries. Unfortunately, I am having trouble reading it. Can someone transcribe what is written? I can use Google to translate from Portuguese to English. The entry starts on the bottom of Folha 257 until the next page.
Livro 5.º de registo de casamentos do Caniço (1734/1805), folhas 257-257v

Hello Linda,
It is difficult to read all the things that are written on the bottom of that page but it says more or less this:
On a visit by the reverends who do not allow the marriages of contracting parties who have not taken baths in the parish of their birth or to minors without authorization or other reasons...
Sorry I do not understand why there are no records of the dates that you said. There were probably no baptisms on those dates which I find strange.

thanks for trying. that's a weird entry to have in a parish marriage book.
