Help with a Dutch to English translation, please?
The attached, as I understand it, is a record of my ancestor's brother registering onto a ship with the Dutch East India Company in 1784. Unfortunately, he would die at sea in 1785 en route to Sri Lanka.
I would however love to have a translation of this record in case I can gain any insights.
Thank you!

The published snip is only a partial document, can you provide the link
that belongs to this document?, I like to see the whole page.
I think Sri Lanka was called 'Ceylon' bij the VOC Dutch, so if you can find the ships name along with the term - Ceylon, you can find the ship's
manifest.
The Dutch still have massive VOC documents and manifests.

Adrien, thank you. I apologize the original attachment somehow was cropped.
I've reattached it and also you can follow the link, here: https://www.openarch.nl/ghn:efdff3fb-294b-4beb-b62a-661af1650fdb/en

I'll add... the link I provided does give some English description, but I feel like there might be more information in the document that could be insightful.

The document is a register made on behalf of the ship's master, the Voc and the payroll.
It pays the sailors their wage, after considering their retainers, debts, last will in case of death..the document does not specifically state that he is deceased , instead uses the term "Niet Vermaakt"-this implies his death , without last will, promises or witnesses that
knew of a last will, the last payment made to the sailor was 10 (rijksdaalder)? and some debt was claimed by J Brambergen, and Margaretha Haveman, also a number of boxes were claimed(kisten) for the price of 3 (?)...
------
Haveman signed of this debt.

Looking at the Voc scan, and the dates on the documents i can see a lot of time passing by after reaching Ceylon, and his death.Possibly he did not die at sea, as Haveman was a woman, probaly at the Ceylon headquarters.
Are you interested in the Sparenrijk?(ship?

you can find the logs of the Sparenrijk via
control f , sparenrijk.but only the books referential numbers. You need to be a historian in Holland to have acces

Adrien, thank you very much, this is excellent detail! The ship's logs will be fun to dig into. The translation also confirms the correct home town that I expected: Falkenau, Germany--so I know I have found the right Melchior.

Thanks, but i have a dissapointment about the Sparenrijk, the location of the wreckage is unknown to this day, apparently the ship sank along with 3 others in the same storm.
There were only survivers on the other three ships, but all sailors of the Sparenrijk drowned.
There were two Ships named the Sparenrijk, one previous to 1762, and one after that later on , the name was granted again,to a ship that serviced Indonesia, altough it made other voyages also. Most of the records you will stumble upon, are from this ship, and are located in Indonesia for the biggest part.
The ship of your interest , however ,(b 1762),has a big presence in the Dutch VOC archives. Many log's still exist from it.Most is only availiable for historians , universities, altough big parts are scanned and availiable on-web.
The period to frame your ancestor correctly in Ceylon, would be during the Dutch
presence in the Kingdom of Kandy. This was a very turbulent period.
