I'm hoping someone may be willing to take on a challenge and help me find information on my great
great uncle Jacques Spanheimer (Sponheimer) in France. He was born on 1 July 1810 with the birth registered in Schleithal, Alsace-Lorraine. This is what I do know: By 1826 the family had moved to Wissembourg, France where Jacques's father Valentin passed away in May 1833. Jacques sister Marie Anne, along with her husband Jacques Schweitzer & family, then move to Roeschwoog, France and finally settle in Weyersheim north of Strassbourg, France. Marie Anne's mother, Catherine Weiss, joins them there and that is where she passes away. Jacques's brother Pierre moves to Souffelweyersheim and after his marriage the couple live in Kilstett where their daughters are born and from where they leave for America in 1846. I do not know about Jacques whereabouts until 1861 when he arrives in New York aboard the ship Admiral and from there joins his brother in the state of Wisconsin.
He passes away in 1881 and his very short obituary says he was from France and served 10 years in the French Army. It is not much to go on but perhaps knowing the family can help.

What information are you specifically looking for in regards to your great great uncle Jaques? Are you looking for children,
spouse,
or residence in the time 1833-1861?
Do you need the attached documents translated?

Thank you for responding to my post. I don't need a translation, I just thought posting his birth record and ship record might be of some help. I am really trying to find out where he was from 1833-1861. His obituary said he served in the French Army for 10 years but not where. I was hoping maybe someone had access to a web site I'm not familiar with or knew how to find information from military records. Hope that helps !

Try this site. It has all sorts of information on which records are available and it would be the place I would start.
Good luck!
