If i change the last name to van Zon i can reserve the ordinances but can no longer find the person in the references. It looks like there will be several generations. What do i do?

It's probably the case that the system is not allowing you to put the word 'son' in the name field of a female. If you really want to stick with the 'son' spelling of the name, you will have to click on "Feedback" at the bottom of any FamilySearch page and create a case where you will explain the problem and ask for a dispensation to allow for that word to be included in that field.
