A friend of mine had a daughter who made a quilt for her mother using family pictures. They were 8x10 pictures printed on a special quilt paper and then she put them on the quilt and sewed a border around each picture and then had it professionally quilted. It is a treasured heirloom since her husband recently passed away.

When my husband's 1st wife, Kim, passed away from brain cancer, his daughter-in-law took some of Kim's favorite clothing and make quilts for each of Kim's children with her clothing as the fabric for the squares. They were simple quilts but are treasures to Kim's children! This is basically a quilt about one person, but I know that those quilts will be kept in the family as treasures and passed down. (The youngest son was just 20, so they weren't used by young children).

Shannon, I saw a blog demonstrate how to use freezer paper and fabric to print pictures on fabric. It was Very interesting and the quilts she used as examples where incredibly beautiful. A real Treasure for sure!

My cousin just explained an exciting idea to me about this. She said that with all the sources available, a quilt of everyone’s signature would be beautiful! Now I look at the signatures much differently as I am ‘sourcing’ each ancestor.

Not the best picture, but I made this for my mother-in-law. Color images printed on iron-on-paper. Each of her kids' families circling the Salt Lake Temple, where in-laws were married. Hand quilted around each family portrait and the temple is just white thread quilting on white fabric. Tied the flower print border and close in around the portraits. Was made for Christmas 2002 and she kept it on her bed ever since. She now sleeps in her recliner and the quilt is folded and carefully shelved in her closet. I know she treasures it, even though it is now missing quite a few grand and great-grandchildren.

No, I hand quilted the temple and around the picture circles, but just tied the outer edges.
