Giuseppi Mallima(G7ZC-HXM) Birth Record and Locale Question
I am working tracking down the birth record for Giuseppi Mallima(G7ZC-HXM). He immigrated to the US 30 July 1909. I believe his birth town is Cerase, Reggio, Calabria, Italy. This is based off of his naturalization papers. The birth date is 13 Feb 1893. This is also based off his naturalization papers.
A couple of notes on spelling variations:
- The ships manifest says "Mallamo"
- The various census records start with Mallima in 1910 and settle on Mallino by 1940. Mallino is the currenly used family name.
I am trying to establish two things.
- Is Cerasi(Cerase) the correct town? I can find Mallimas in some of the indexed records for this town. There is no Cerase that I can find, but Cerasi is in the correct area of Italy and records show Mallimas did exist there. http://www.benvanrijswijk.com/indici/cerasimatrimoni1632-1840.htm
- How should I proceed with finding his birth record? Most of the online records I have found do not cover the date of his birth. I am ultimately trying to determine his parents' names.
Thank you in advance!

Cerasi is a frazione of Reggio Calabria. His 1909 and 1924 passenger manifest both say he is from Reggio Calabria and the 1924 manifest says he is the son of Antonio.
You need to be looking in Antenati for his civil birth record. The 1889-1895 10-year birth index for the comune of Reggio Calabria shows two Giuseppe Mallamo births to a father named Antonio: one in 1891 born to Angela Marza, and the other in 1893 born to Rosa Codispati:
If the 1893 birth matches his given birth date in other documents (don't be surprised if it's not an exact match) that may be your guy. I do see from the naturalization petition that a couple of his children were named Antonio and Rosa so it looks like a good possibility.

Thank you for finding the second passage to Italy. I did not know this exists. It seems to match a lot of the known data points. This is amazing! How did you find this? It looks like registration number is 548. Looking through the birth registration book it seems that the records end around row 300 and then it changes to marriages. Can you confirm that I am looking in correct place? Thank you so much!!!

Here it is; there were several supplemental folders listed at the end of the first folder. Antenati can be hard to navigate sometimes. #548. Born 10 April 1893.
