Need help to find my great-grandather's real Chinese name.
He immigrated to Lima/Callao, Peru from Canton, China in 1873. His name in Peru was Federico Salinas, but that wasn't his original name. I believe he was born in 1864, which would make him about 9 when he immigrated to Peru. I would like to find the manifest of the boat he traveled on from China to Peru because I could narrow the passengers down to children and find his original name that way. But I've hit a brick wall on tracking down the manifest. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Cathey, I've searched for ship manifests from China to Peru, but haven't come with any results. Even though we don't have a good answer to your question at this time something may come up in the future. Your post will remain on the site. Thank you for using FamilySearch and if I come up with more information I will let you know.

One other thing you might do is find out if he had a business in Peru and maybe someone took a photo of the business. One of my friends had a great grandfather who came to Peru also. He ran a store and had Chinese characters on the sign which included the name.
He probably would have entered the country thru the port of Callao, which is now part of Lima.
Buena Suerte!
