Greetings! This is the death record of Louis Gueit, resident of St Thomas. I'd like it translated from it's original Danish. This could be a distant link to the brick wall dozens of my family members have been trying to breech for over 20yrs thank you!

What is the brick wall you are looking to break through? This is a probate record, not a death record; do you have a link to where the record is from? There are a couple of words and letters I can't quite make out that I might be able to if I can compare them to other words written by the same scribe in the same book.

Translation:

Year 1844, on 24 July came before the probate court's ? Nicolas Perrin, who so far has been the appointed agent of ? Louis Gueit, that this person [Louis Gueit]

died in la Seyne, Departementet Du Var in

France in the course of the month of the previous May [1844]. The deceased, who had resided here for many years, as far as ? knew had here left behind nothing at all, and it is known to him that Louis Gueit had, on 20 December of the previous year [1843] sold and handed off to Rosalie Dampierre his boutique and outstanding appraisals as well to her children, the property number 9 Lu. B [or 13] Kronprinsensgade and ?; and are the documents read within/before St. Thomas ? the 1st of this [month? person's?].

As confirmation of this he signed the protocol.

 

Image 84 of the linked image is a death record in La Seyne-sur-Meur of a Jean Louis Gueit, age 50, died on 9 May 1844 at 4 p.m., born in La Seyne[-sur-Mer], department Du Var. I think it's listing him as a son of the deceased Louis Fortuné Gueit and Delphine Aillaud, and as the husband of Magdeleine Rose Toisse, residing in La Seyne, but if this looks to you like it could be the correct death record, you might want to have someone who knows French verify the information/relationships.

This is most interesting. I received this from another researcher searching for the Dampierre family. ​The brickwall I refer to is Gueit. Family in Puerto Rico. Lore tells us the patriarch had a brother and the 2 were part of a shipping family from France. My ancestor met his wife and her family on St. Thomas. Finding evidence of he or his mystery brother before 1830 has proven near impossible. So I am searching for the surname alone during a small period to try to correlate any relations. I can translate French, spanish, esperanto and some old german (other tree branches) but this is invaluable. Thank you!
