Slide Show
Please, please, please do not take away the slide show feature! For every class I teach I have a slide show running. It draws people into my memories classes.
I also use it in the following ways:
- My parents have passed away. On their birthdays, I send out to my siblings and all the grandchildren a slideshow presentation with pictures of their lives. It has been so well received and causes them to turn their hearts/remember our parents and grand parents.
- I'm doing the same thing with my parents anniversary
- I have a brother that passed away as a child. I'm creating a slide show that will go out on Jeff's birthday
- I have a close friend to whom my wife and I ministered for 5 years. He passed away a year ago. I'm creating a slide show with the pictures we accumulated for br. John. That slide show will go to his siblings and mother on the anniversary of br. John's death
Please do not removed this feature.

Others have also requested the return of this function.
I will notify the engineers again regarding how much people loved this function. Changes are ongoing, so perhaps it will return in a coming update.
Thank you for providing feedback.

As a workaround, FS Memories can be (individually) downloaded to a computer or smartphone. There are many computed-based tools to create slideshows and output them in a video format (e.g. MP4). I use iMovie on macOS for this purpose. An advantage of this approach is that a soundtrack (music or commentary) can be easily included.
It would be useful, if FS allowed for all memories in a specific album be downloaded concurrently in a Zip or other archive format. This could also serve as a backup function which is clearly lacking.

Thanks to both of you.
Amber, Thank you for letting me know others wanted the feature and that it will return at a coming date. It's still available in the old version. Is there anyway that a link can be provided to where I can get access to the slideshow, after the old version goes away?
David,
I'm not the most computer literate. Downloading pictures individually and then learning a new program can be done but for me it's problematic. It would take me a lot of time. Having the slide show in FamilySearch allows me to send slideshows by email to family members then encourage them to go directly to that deceased family members page to see additional memories. It's how I'm using FamilySearch to try to turn the hearts of my ancestors descendants to their collective Fathers. Using another program in part defeats what I'm trying to do. Yes, it can be done and I an include the PID# when sending slide shows from another program. But for me that is so very difficult since I've uploaded the memories in FamilySearch and they are all organized in Albums on FamilySearch.
Thanks for both of your responses.

One other thought. How was the slideshow feature marketed or how was awareness promoted? I backed into the slideshow functionality and gradually figured out how to use it, and now it's a staple in what I do. To me, it seems like you are removing a part of the program (feature) that has limited awareness and it's being removed because of low feature usage? That's disturbing to me. You've developed the feature. Seems like building awareness and maintaining a feature is easier that removing and reimplementing. My apologies if this sounds judgmental as I'm not a programmer. I would just love keeping and using slideshows as a FamilySearch feature.
Kind regards, Kelly

Please restore the slide show in the new version of Memories.
Many times all the pics and info are right there and it is easy to create an album and click on slide show.
- I recommend it for memorial services.
- I also recommend it for family reunions.
- I use it to demonstrate slide show uses. Two albums I use for demonstrations are:
- Ancestors and their pets
- Headstones
It's such a great feature, please don't remove it.

We are notifying the engineers of the repeated requests to return the "slide-show" feature of the albums. Thank you for adding your feedback to this thread.
