The Black Canadian Population: Then and Now

Black Canadians and their communities stretch all the way back to the 1600s. Perhaps your ancestors were enslaved persons from Africa, Loyalists who fled to Canada after the American Revolution, or part of the Jamaican Maroons. Maybe your ancestors were part of the Underground Railroad and escaped slavery in the United States by fleeing to Canada or were people who just felt the Great North was the place for them.
